After a blistering hot few weeks, the heat continued on Hampstead Heath for this years' match. 27c and sunny skies welcomed the players of Magic Hat and No Mans Land. The pitch was dry and fast but lumpy in patches. Magic Hat captain P Codron won the toss and elected to bat. P Codron and J Kaye opened and NML's captain D Graham put P Kaye in with the ball. P Codron and J Kaye made some good shots for a quick start with 8 off the over. In came P Davies from the pavilion end and found good line & length against J Kaye. On the fifth ball an outswinger hit off stump and J Kaye was out for 1. In came Aussie debutant E Hammond.

P Kaye and P Davies continued with some good bowling but found P Codron and E Hammond difficult to deal with as both batsmen looked comfortable picking up 20 runs from the next 4 overs including a few boundaries. A change from D Graham bringing on M Reynolds and J Cutts both debutants, but still no chances despite a maiden over from J Cutts. The total moved nicely onto 55 off 10 overs. By this time impressive E Hammond reached the promised land of retirement and was replaced by A Hardy. Codron and Hardy continued to pile on the runs with some good running and solid ground strokes. P Codron retired soon after and was replaced by L Jones. It seemed the magic was with the hat today as Jones and Hardy looked really solid giving nothing away and leaving NML frustrated.

Ton up and in came R Medina and N Franklin with the ball. A Hardy soon reached retirement with his highest score of 27. Magic Hat now 120 for 1. J Holder entered with D Graham taking the ball, but L Jones seemed well on his game and he too reached retirement with 28. R Cracknell came in picking up quick singles and boundaries with J Holder to push the total over 140. In the end Magic Hat finished with an excellent 147 for 1 with 4 retirements. P Davies led the bowling figures with 4 overs 1 wicket for 11 runs. How would NML reply?

Chasing 148, No Mans Land opened with R Medina and P Davies with the ball going to A Hardy who impressed with a maiden. R Cracknell came in also grabbing a fine maiden. P Davies got off the mark with 2 from the 3rd over and R Cracknel continued his good start giving away just 2 off his 2nd over. P Codron made a change bringing on L Jones and 3rd ball paid dividends after a fantastic caught & bowled, stopping B Medina's initial straight drive with his outstretched left arm and then catching it on the fall. One of the best wickets for years! Medina out for a duck. NML now 6 for 1 and captain D Graham entered hoping to forge a partnership with P Davies. He got off the mark first ball and Davies hitting a cover drive for 4. Cracknell produced another tight over for 3 runs as L Jones started his 2nd over by bowling D Graham for 2. NML now 16 for 2.

In came P Kaye and started well with 4 off a short ball. R Cracknell started his final over allowing P Davies to hit another fine boundary, but on his 3rd delivery he pitched it up with a shorter faster ball saw Davies's top edge go straight into the gloves of E Hammond and he was out for 17. NML now 29 for 3 off 8 overs. In came J Cutts. P Codron threw on J Kaye to take on his dad, a single scored. 3 good balls from J Kaye got J Cutts in trouble and then the wicket duly arrived with a fine ball that hit middle and off stumps with J Cutts out for a duck and was replaced by M Reynolds. NML now 30 for 4. A Cutts now had the ball giving away 4 off the over. P Kaye continued a solid innings and M Reynolds was looking comfortable too as they pushed the score past 50.

J Holder tried his luck with the ball giving away 6 off his over. P Codron decided to have an over only to see his first ball duly dispatched for 6 by P Kaye. Soon after Kaye reached retirement on 28. On came N Franklin who scored a quick brace, only to see partner M Reynolds bowled by J Holder for 17. NML now 71 for 5. Latecomer J Paul entered picking up a boundary off P Codron, who then gave J Kaye his final over. He delivered by bowling N Franklin out for 6. D Cohen entered with NML now 87 for 6 off 18 overs. P Codron, who had given away 19 off his first 2 overs decided to have one more as J Paul got another boundary. On his last delivery a medium paced leg spinner, saw J Paul scoop up to mid off where R Cracknell was standing but he somehow dropped an easy chance. He recovered quickly to notice confusion between J Paul & D Cohen and proceeded to roll the ball onto the stumps from 6 yards and Cohen was run out for a duck. No Mans Land finished on 94 for 7 off 19 overs, some 53 runs behind Magic Hat. L Jones led the way with the bowling figures of 2 overs, 2 wickets for 12 runs with J Kaye also picking up 2 wickets.
